Our
Mission

The Pilecki Institute was established as a small research center in 2016, and is now a 150-person team operating in Poland, Germany, Switzerland and the USA. It collects and makes available source documents relating to the history of the 20th century, supports research programs, offers grants to scholars from Poland and abroad, presents exhibitions to examine difficult topics from the history of Central Europe, runs an academic publishing house, and organizes cultural events during which a variety of means of artistic expression are used to discuss the dramatic faces of the past century.

Our New York branch opens in 2025. Our mission is to research the history of the 20th-century’s totalitarian regimes, share the testimonies of their witnesses and preserve the memory of their victims. We focus on the history of Poland and its struggle against German Nazism and Soviet Communism.
